BLING

From Mod Mania

The first time I saw “bling-bling” stuff is in some movie where a pimp or mr.t have some diamond on all their jewellery and accessories, and then later on I saw it to see more and more on hip-hop stars, and with hip-hop getting more and more popular everyday people also intense to follow them, that’s why now we can see a lot of stores selling jewellery and accessories with fake diamond on it. And from a little bit of discussion in class I think people starts to butting diamond on their stuff because that want it to show others that they have the money and the ability to put diamond on their stuff and make it bling so they can get people’s attention. And then it became a fashion style around the world. The hip-hop fashion begins from those African-American in New York and Los Angeles. And I also think that hip-hop fashion also shows the whole culture’s concept and attitude. And as time goes by hip-hop fashion had some tremendous changes and it now had become one of the main parts of all the different fashion around the world. In late 70’s early 80’s some sports wear brand had link them self to hip-hop like Adidas, Le Coq Sportif and Kangol. And in the 80’s some big name in hip-hop like LL Cool J had started to wear very colorful clothes and pilot jacket that is made from sheepskin or cow skin , and ofcause there’s a hair style that go with the clothes and that what they call “Jheri curl”, is a curly hair style that’s easy to deal with, Michael Jackson had one of those at the time. And in the late 80’s there’s another style called “hi-top fade” ,is very short on both side and make the top hair really tall. Will smith had a hair like that beck then. As for jewellery and accessories there were big glasses from “Cazals or Gazelle”, Kangol’s hat and a lot of heavy necklace and rings, and all the hip-hop artiest had spread the heavy jewellery and accessories fashion. In the 90’s gangster rap was one of the main elements on hip-hop music and the hip-hop fashion had got some influence on the way they dress, like baggy pants and wear it really low, tattoos and bandana. In late 90s white gold had mostly replace gold in hip-hop fashion, not just celebrities but also normal people loves to wear white gold or silver jewellery and accessories, and most of the time will have diamond on it. Other white gold stuff had also became popular like putting white gold on their teeth. And now a lot of hip-hop celebrities had their own brand like jay-z’s rocawear, 50cent’s G-Unit, Jennifer Lopez’s JLO, Eminem’s Shady Ltd, Diddy’s Sean John and more. And there are also other famous hip-hop brands like Karl Kani, FUBU, Ecko, Girbaud, Enyce, Famous Stars and Straps, Bape, LRG, Timberland, NEW ERA and Akademiks. Hip-hop fashion had become more and more main stream, maybe is because people have very high acceptance on hip-hop couture, and now music and fashion’s connection is closer then ever.

I think shoes modification is just like car modification or any other modification, is a platform to let other people to express their own personality and to do design on it.and heres some shoes that i think have some nice design on it. Image:Ff ia17615.jpgImage:332050 fpx.jpg This two is from ECKO, is since 1972 by Marc Ecko in New Jersey.

Image:Ed-hardy.jpgImage:Ed-hardy-snowblazer-boots1.jpg And heres some shoes from Ed Hrady by Christian Audigier ..

I think car modification is huge in Melbourne and is also an life style, is a image that people have and want it to project and is also a hobby, some people like to spend money on cloth and accessories and some people like to spend money on their car. And people specifically modify the interiors or exteriors on their car because everyone got their own taste, some wants to modify the engine some wants the outside looks but for me I think is a overall package, engine ,interior, outside. I like everything to be done, so I think it comes to individual person. People have different reactions about modified cars, some people who will just shake their head at it cause all they just see is a modify car and they generally expect the driver to be some kind of hoon, but in now days most people will find some modify car amazing and got blew away on how many work and money people put in to their car.

And here is some cars I think that is really cool, a Hummer H2 which is a very popular car people choose to buy and modify, especially in America, a lot of celebrities have it because it has a large space in it so there are plenty of space to modify and put a lot of their own personality in it, a Ford Mustang which I don’t think a lot of people modify it because is a really expensive car and is already a very good one, and there’s Nissan 350z, this is a car that also have many people modify cause is not so expensive cause is Nissan and it have a lot of company that make its body kit and it also looks cool so I think that’s why is also a popular car to be modify.

I think the many reason woman and man wear make-up is because it makes them look batter, their eyes looks bigger, eye lash looks longer, and make their skin smoother, most of the time is for first impression, and girls always wanna look pretty, not just for them self but also for others, the have good mood when they look pretty and also can attract others. And we all know what make-up can do from all those photos that shows the different between with and with out it on all the celebrities. some people says that wearing make-up will damage the skin over the years, but I think as long as is a good brand then is ok because if is true then no one will ever use make-up

In my knowledg graffiti is usually illegal involving the unauthorized marking of public space by an individual or group something ,but i think is just a form of visual communication and some of them have really nice, sexy graphic design,Even though graffiti is illegal in most of the country but like I said those graffiti that shows good graphic design or shows the spirit of a group or whatever should be seen as an public art but others should be seen as damages to public property for example like people writing stuff on trains with markers. So I think the question of whether such work is an innovative art form or a public nuisance has aroused much discussion.

"Bling-Bling"

This is a very common word in society today, it came from the hip hop culture as the person who wrote this has mentioned. Many hip hop artists if asked will tell you why they wear plenty of expensive jewellery and clothing. The answer is that most of them came from the lower class part of USA. They didn't have all the money they needed, surviving on the bare minimum. The money that they gain through their music is their hard earned money (despite many people arguing whether they worked hard for it or not) It is the struggle they go through from the not so fortunate people in the world to become the "high rollers" of society. As i've discussed in the "Clothing" topic the clothing has evolved over the years. From the basic clothing derived from sportswear (tracksuits) to the baggy clothing now (still various sporting brands) The hats have changed a fair bit aswel. They've gone from the bandana and normal cap, to the caps with the flat visor which is crooked to the side. Male Hip Hop Artists usualy are wearing sports gear, whether it be Large Basketball jerseys or Jerseys from the NFL. The Hip Hop artists who usualy wear these could be seen as somewhat patriotic to his home country. Not being USA but where his ancestors came from... The NBA and NFL is predominantly played by african-americans, the hip hop artists will show their support for their fellow african-americans. Though this may seem a tad like racism, it can be seen as comradery. This is also seen in Australian Rules Football (AFL) with the aboriginals. It was in the newspaper a couple of years ago, although i can't remember who the players were, but one player put in a great effort and kicked a tremendous goal, an opposition player who was also aboriginal gave him a pat on the back and gave him a discreet hi 5.

I think that all this has some part that contributes to the 'bling-bling" worn by many of the richer hip hop artists but also rich athletes.
