What is Car Club?
What is a car club? Car club is a community filled with people who enthusiastically love their car so much; they usually mod it with different things and style to make it unique from other people. On the other hand, some car club was created based on the interest in racing on the track or driving uphill to the mountain and some community was created by gathering all the people who use a same car. As a community, they also act like a company, have bosses (leaders), secretary, and treasurer.
What is the purpose of joining a car club/community?
The most interesting thing of joining a car club/community is about sharing the members’ personal experience about modifying a car and also tuning a car. And by joining a car club/community, we can get more friends to hanging out with the same hobbies and interest in car. Having fun with people who got the same hobbies with us will make us feel in a comfortable zone of your own self.
What the members do in the community?
Every car club/community with have a gathering event like once a month or once a week. They hanging out together like having dinner, going to automotive modification events, or having a track race together. Car club is not all about modification; it’s about friendship that builds inside the community. In car club/community, they share all of their information about cars, information about automotive parts recommended seller, and information about automotive events (auto-salon, audio contest, or track day).

There’s quite a lot car club that knows well in Indonesia. One of the most famous car clubs in Indonesia is called connection. Connection was created in August 2007 by Erick Yang who had become the former leader of connection. At the beginning connection was created just because of the similarities in hobbies in automotive world of few high school student in Bandung, Indonesia. Erick yang that had form this community now leave in Melbourne, Australia to continue his studies. Consequently, Andy Santosa who was the vice leader of connection become the leader of connection in Bandung. After a year later, the community grown bigger until it has branch in Jakarta, which is the capital city of Indonesia. Jakarta’s connection auto-community is lead by Andre Karev. Until now, connection already has 5 branches in Indonesia, and 1 branch in Melbourne, Australia. Furthermore, connection also has win a lot of contest as the King of Auto_Black_Through contest (The biggest Indonesian Automotive contest) and also have been win as the hottest car club in Auto_Black_Through contest for 3 year in a row.
What do the member of connection do in this community?
Like other car club/community, connection also hangs out together with other member. They also went to every automotive competition and joined in to compete other car in Indonesia. For competition purpose, the member share all their parts like rims, body-kit conversion, or any accessories to be used in competition. In every connection birthday in august, they always do charity events like giving food to homeless people and went to orphanage to give money and foods.
[connection] Auto-Community in Melbourne
Different with connection in Indonesia, connection in Melbourne only have 6 people as a member include Erick Yang who is the Former leader of connection and me as a member. Connection in Melbourne was formed due to the member of connection in Indonesia have went to study abroad in Melbourne. There are only 4 cars of connection Melbourne, but we always go out together like having coffee or had a photo shoot. This club is quite small, but I think we enjoyed it and we are having a lot of fun.
Oz EVO Community
Oz EVO is community where people who drive an Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution from generation 1 until 10 (the latest generation) to share their experience about their lancer evolution. This community created from the forum that they have, which is www.ozevo.com. Oz EVO is the largest Australian Lancer Evolution community. I knew this community because I was invited as the photographer for the gathering and magazine photo shoot. According to my experiences, this community is all about sharing about their EVO to know more about the plus minus of their EVO. In their forum, they also sell a lot of think special for EVO as well as the rare thing for EVO.
Steam Rice Kidz – Powered by Rice
Steam Rice Kidz is a small car community that was created from friends that they meet during car washing in high street. This community exists about 3 years in Melbourne. This small community has 10 members without any leader due to they decided that all members are the leader. This community always have meeting at car wash in high street every week and also some time they went driving uphill to the mountain like mount dandenong or King Lake. Sometime, after they finish washing their car, they went to places like monash, st.kilda, or other place with good view to have a night photo shoot of their cars. Furthermore, they also went to Winton raceway to race together on the track. In my opinion, this car community is a community where people love their cars, where people like to drive and race on the track. This community also likes to repair their car together. For example, changing the oils, brake oil, changing head lights, or plug in some part for their car.
My Own Experience in Car Club/Community
As I mention in 6th paragraph, I’m a member from [connection] auto-community since last 2 years. According to my experience, joining a car club is and interesting and fun things. Because we get more friends that have the same hobbies with us, and we also get someone to ask about modification and ask about other member’s suggestion and opinions. By joining a club member, it can make us feel want to modified more of your car to compete with other member cars that have been fully modified. On the other hand, sometime in the communities, there could be a problem like different opinion. It happen to my club once, but at the end the problem solved by our leader. So I think a leader is a person that we should have to solving problem like this. For me the best thing of joining a car club is the friendship that we make. In conclusion, joining a car club is a good thing to do. We got friends and we got hobbies.
