Lock Out

Lock out

For my final writing piece I’m going to write about the 2am lockout that is currently in place and most pubs and clubs around Melbourne. It is only going to be a short report cause I have already reached the 2000 word quota, just when I was thinking about what to write I also come up with this topic, so I though I would express my point of view.

The main question behind this writing piece is: Why modify rules and laws within Melbourne?

One new rule and law that has been introduced into Melbourne’s nightlife is the 2am lockout. This is a modification to Melbourne’s nightlife, lets alone a modifications to the rules that us Australians have to obey.

What is the 2am lock out?

The 2 am lockout is a new rule that has been introduced that prevents people from entering clubs after 2 am. This means there is a possibility that people will be stranded in the city with nothing to do, cause they are waiting for the first train home, which usually doesn’t start till about 6 am.

Why was this modification introduced?

The main reason why this rule was introduced was because the government thought that Melbourne’s nightlife was becoming more dangerous, and the streets were no longer as safe as they used to be.

How does this modification change Melbourne’s nightlife?

Personally I believe this rule is a load of crap, this idea of trying to reduce the number on criminal activity in Melbourne at night was not going to be solved by introducing a 2 am lock out. This rule is going to increase criminal activity. If people are not allowed in to clubs and pubs after 2 am, then the people stranded outside aren’t going to act all happy and catch a $100 taxi home, in fact they are going to be quite angry and will want to start trouble because they believe that the government is taking away their right to have fun, so they decide that they will rebel while waiting for the first train to arrive so that they can make there way home.

Even in the past couple months there is evidence that the criminal activity in Melbourne has increased since the modification of Melbourne’s nightlife. Someone has even been killed outside the front of QBH nightclub.

Fair enough it stop people from pub hopping and creative violence, but the violence on the street when people are stranded is a lot more intense, it is stopping people from exploring Melbourne at night!

I believe instead of modifying Melbourne’s nightlife the government should modify its presents in Police at night to keep the streets safe, this would be a lot more effective!

P.S. Sorry for making this more of an opinion piece, but I have still tried to strongly include the idea of modifying Melbourne’s nightlife and Melbourne in general.
