One day and its lasting legacy
From Mod Mania
My first modification that took me through a process occurred when I was 4 years old in the garage of the house my grandparents owned. It was a task I was set by my grandfather, a man who knew how to make the most out of any situation. He had seen the depression come and go and maintained a family through tough times. I could have easily been swayed towards buying the outcome I wanted to achieve at this age had the money and mind state surrounded me. I was encountered with a problem, how do I make a train bridge?
At four years old I could not contemplate the effect the suggestion my grandfather made would have on the rest of my life. I can still remember the feeling I got when confronted by the question. I know only feel the last half of that feeling, it is your mind switching from why to how and proceeds to fix what you need with what you can.
I built my first train bridge using scrap wood my grandfather had collected over time and tools he had lying around in his shed. Before this day I had gained an insightful knowledge of hammers and nails by beating them into anything I could. I was experimenting with techniques; I implemented them into the train bridge. My construction was so secure that it still maintains its form today.
I have been driven ever since to modify what I have to suit what I want rather than throwing more money at the situation. This allows me to open up my mind and bring my thoughts to any table regarding an object.
