Skate Skate Shoes

From Mod Mania

Hey modders and modettes!! For my special mod I will attempt to turn a pair of skate shoes into a pair of inline skates. Basically shoes with wheels, but without weight of the inline skates....

Research and Inspiration

Images from the NET were used to help me design and construct my frames. Component which are needed and ones which aren't.

The Skate Shoe

The shoes were old skate shoes which I stopped wearing and was planning to donate.

CAD Drawing

I used Solidworks to model the inline skate frame which is the important part of this project. The design came from my research above. It is simple and very strong. I choose to use aluminum for its strength and because it was easy to find. After the drawing was done, a 1 to 1 sized mock-up was made out of foam core.

The Build

I used T-nuts which are used to for cabinet making to secure to the frame to the shoe(Six per shoe). No adhesive was needed because the T-nut locked the frame in place and it also allowed me to take apart the frame when required. Two 57mm wheels were used on each frame to save weight. The wheel bearings and axels were taken from existing inlines.

Conclusion: The skate shoe was a success, I was very happy with the outcome. The shoes rolls very well, and feel very secure when worn. There is no flex in the frame and balancing is easy. It feel like wearing a pair of real rollerblades without the ankle supports, which brings me to the only down fall of the design. Normal rollerblades have support pass the ankle which protect the users ankle from breaking or rolling. With more practice I believe can master my new shoes without and injuries(fingers crossed).
