History of Vespa

Vespa is one of the most a unique brand in the world and it has been acting with famous actors for 60years such as Roman Holiday. It is definition of fashion and also definition of life style.

Vespa, which has meaning of wasp, created by Enrico Piaggio, who is organizer of Piaggio Group, he wanted to build transportation for the masses. Initial production MP5 prototype was nicknamed PAPERINO (the Italian name for Donald Duck) because of the shape, but Piaggio did not like it so he asked Corradino D’Ascanio to redesign it. Thus a first model was MP6 which looks like WASP, which is why they named the model as VESPA. In 1946, Enrico Piaggio started mass production of two thousand units of the first Vespa 98cc. The new vehicle was released at motorcycle magazine Motor and La Moto which is the best magazine at that time. After 125cc model was released, Vespa was an immediate success not even in all over Europe also in USA. It is not just a market phenomenon; it forms part of social history and become a synonym for scooter till now. In 1955, Vespa model GS150 got praise and uttered the most elegant scooter in the world by professional. But Vespa PX (125,150 and 200cc) is the biggest sales success in the entire history of the Vespa. It is the ORIGINAL VINTAGE (it has sold over 2million units), and it is favorites among those with a sense of nostalgia but also with the younger market.
