Applying iPhone controls into Quartz

From Physical Programming

The unique process of allowing an iPhone to control a quartz composition is that you also need to create a program that will allow for your iPhone to:

- communicate with the computer through a cable, Bluetooth or Wireless

- design and program an interface to allow functionality

- do all this on a mac (since the iPhone SDK software isnt compatible with a pc)

Ha! Exactly what someone who though he would never touch a mac with a ten-foot pole wanted to hear. However, whats important is the development of this project.

                         Apple advertising Apps Store

The pinnacle of the success of the iPhone is the ability to apply various application and tasks to it using the touch interface, wireless capabilities, existing Apple products (iTunes) and the incorporated hardware (gyros, mobile signal etc). There is a plethora of uses that have been or are yet to be discovered. Apple introduced the Apps store in order for people to access all sort of applications to expand their uses for their devices (as well as invent another cash camel...)

If you were to look through the Apps library for the iPhone, you will come across one particular program called OSCemote: this allows for both the communication and the functionality of the iPhone to quartz or any other program for that matter. But whats the fun in spending $5.99 for something that can be designed by the user (ironically that was how the program was originally done)

So the equipment needed in order to first get the iPhone to connect to the computer are:

- an iPhone (surprise surprise)

- SDK development software

- A iMac or Macbook running OSX 10.5 Leopard

- iTunes

- Some sort of Bluetooth attachment device (usually inbuilt)

Shall we progress?

Well guys looks like my progress will be backlogged for a little while for the need of my own Macbook and, well, thats never an easy thing to just go out and do for the lazy $2000 i need to spend. So until then lets tread some water and play ball and cup...
