Exsisting Project and Resources

From Physical Programming

Existing Projects

Instead of looking at one project, I have listed links to a few projects using the same technology to create it. I looked at the use of motion sensoring to influence the output e.g lights and sound.

BELOW ARE LINKS TO SCRIPT TO BLINKING LEDS, FADING AND MULITPULE LEDS COMPONENTS

Over the past couple of days I have discovered two new projects that relate directly to my ideas for my project. The project I speak of is my 4th year major and is an expressive exploration of communication and story telling for the use of the deaf and blind.

These projects create the same basic idea of remembering a movement for story telling or knowledge and interaction.

RESOURCES

The idea of the project is to create a digital mirror. The reason behind the idea is that it ties onto my 4th yr project and will help inform the research and production.

The digital mirror is looking at mapping movement and sounds through a LED mirror that is reactive to touch and motion. But for this I'm just trying to create an LED matrix that will react to motion.

To complete this project a number of materials, skills and resources are going to be needed. to begin with im looking at using an Arduino board to control most of the main functions of the information.

Here is a list of materials, skills and resources ill most probably need:

COMPONENTS

  • COMPUTER
  • ARDUINO
  • WIRE
  • LED'S
  • MOTION SENSOR PLUG-IN
  • DOUBLE LAYERED BOARD
  • SOLDER
  • RESISTOR
  • PCB (PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD)
  • ACRYLIC
  • VIDEO CAMERA OR PROJECTOR

SKILLS

  • PROGRAMMING OF ARDUINO
  • SOLDERING
  • CIRCUIT BOARD DEVELOPMENT
  • BASIC and ADVANCED ELECTRONICS KNOWLEDGE
  • BASIC WORKSHOP SKILLS

These are just the basic components and skills that will get me started on the project. To be able to program my Arduino need to download the software to run the boards and will need some one to teach me how to write the program and code for the actions I want.

Here is the link to the Arduino Software :http://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software

Each part of the project may require assistance, as I'm learning about all parts of this type of project. From the programing to the building of all the components. I'm not trying to make it out that I can do something, I have no knowledge in.....

For resources, I'll use someone that actually knows what they are doing e.g

  • the rest of the class (the class)
  • the teacher (Scott Mitchell)
  • the internet
  • library

After continued research into the motion sensor and the use of a sensor to control a serius of LED lights, with help i have found a way to control them. LDR (light dependent resistor) is used in conjunction with the led to sense light and movement over them to run the code for the light sequence.

This a link to some script and process in using LDR's and Arduino
