These projects are given a public presence through this blog site. The following list provides details of the projects and links to associated blog posts.<\/p>\n<h1>FIX<\/h1>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/FIX_3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-96 alignnone\" title=\"FIX_3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/FIX_3-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Appearing in the exhibition <em>There\u2019s a Hole in the Bucket<\/em>, curated by Spiros Panigirakis, CLUBSproject\u00a0Inc., Fitzroy.<\/p>\n<p><em>FIX <\/em>consisted of a repair counter installed at CLUBSproject Inc. manned by a team of enthusiastic volunteers (Carly Fischer, Jophes Fleming, Starlie Giekie, Susan Jacobs, Marcus Keating and myself). The <em>FIX <\/em>team accepted objects for repair from exhibition visitors. Objects \u2018fixed\u2019 included an IKEA foot stool, a MatchBox car, and a desk lamp.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"FIX\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/?cat=5\">associated blog posts&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Home-made wireless antennas<\/h2>\n<h2><strong> <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/0.1-Cantenna.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-97 alignnone\" title=\"0.1 Cantenna\" src=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/0.1-Cantenna-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Appearing in the exhibition <em>mMa<\/em>, curated by Bianca Hester,\u00a0CLUBSproject Inc., Fitzroy.<\/p>\n<p>Developed to provide internet access to artist run space CLUBSproject Inc. the wireless internet connection piggybacked of the nearby Gertrude Contemporary Art Space network. A long range wireless link was established through the use of a \u2018cantenna\u2019, a directional antenna constructed from a pineapple juice can, and a parabolic reflector, constructed from cardboard and aluminium foil.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"wireless antenna\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/?p=35\">associated blog post&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>B&amp;O MP3 Mod<\/h2>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Mac-Mod-on-desk.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-99 alignnone\" title=\"Mac Mod on desk\" src=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Mac-Mod-on-desk-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Winner of <em>The 2006 Great Mac<\/em> <em>Mod Challenge.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <em>B&amp;O MP3 Mod <\/em>engages with the Macintosh case modding community. It consists of a 1998 Apple PowerBook computer housed inside a modified Bang &amp; Olufsen case. The unit operates as an MP3 jukebox, the original B&amp;O control interface is re-tasked to function as track selector. Software developed for the unit has been released under an open source license.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"B&amp;O MP3 Mod\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/?cat=2\">associated blog posts&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Cactus door handle<\/h2>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/7.-cactus-handle.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-100 alignnone\" title=\"7. cactus handle\" src=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/7.-cactus-handle-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Installed in my apartment.\u00a0Constructed from the arm off a wooden cactus\u00a0decoration found in hard rubbish.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Cactus door handle\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/?p=24\">associated blog post&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Pokia mobile telephone handset<\/h2>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/handset-and-phone.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-101 alignnone\" title=\"handset and phone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/handset-and-phone-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Originally designed by Nik Roope, the <em>pokia <\/em>style mobile telephone handset is a popular modding project. Repairs were carried out by myself, an untrained amateur and were informed by user generated information obtained from various internet sources. Based in a commercial Melbourne gallery, <em>iSOP <\/em>extended into the broader community through promotional posters, classified advertisements, on-line forums and articles in the local paper. Knowledge generated through the repair process was disseminated back into the online community through a dedicated project blog.<\/p>\n<p>A number of DIY iPod accessories were developed for the project and exhibited along with instructions for their construction.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"iSOP blog post\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/?p=4\">associated blog post&#8230;<\/a> and <a title=\"iSOP website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.openobject.org\/isop\">web site&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>iPod Mash<\/h2>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/iPod_Mash_1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-108\" title=\"iPod_Mash_1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/iPod_Mash_1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Appearing at <em>Sustaining Practices: Collective Commons Day<\/em>, CLUBSproject inc. Meat\u00a0Market Arts House, North Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p><em>iPod Mash <\/em>involves a clash of eras, combining a 4th generation iPod, 3.5\u201d hard drive, mixing circuitry and the case of an early \u201880s AKAI tape player, the unit operates as an audio mixing deck.\u00a0The <em>iPod Mash <\/em>was awarded third prize in <em>The 2007 Great Mac Mod Challenge<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"iPod Mash\" href=\"https:\/\/www.openobject.org\/objectsinflux\/?p=43\">associated blog post&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During this research numerous projects were developed that draw from, and\u00a0link back into, existing hacking and\u00a0modding communities.
