The There’s a Hole in the Bucket<\/i> exhibition has finished and the FIX counter is now closed. A total of 30 fix requests were submitted and FIX (myself and the team) has completed most of the requests (with the exception of one or two items).<\/p>\n

Many of the requests were social or personal in nature. A lot of people wanted us to do something about the tragic state of Australian politics – this is a big ask, so if you’d like to help out please follow one or all of the following links and add your voice to the socially outraged.<\/p>\n

stop the Australia-USA Free Trade Agreement<\/a>
\nsign up for action against climate change<\/a>
\nhelp the Australian Refugee Foundation fight for basic human rights<\/a>
\ndownload Greenpeace’s GE-Free True Food Guide<\/i><\/a>
\nrally against the war in Iraq<\/a>
\nget all the dirt on John Howard (bring a truck, there’s a lot of it)<\/a>
\nand have a laugh at Johnies expense<\/a><\/p>\n

There were about eight FIX requests submitted for faulty objects. Some of these were fixed with a straight forward repair or replacement of the item, the remainder were modified in some way.

This IKEA foot stool, missing a cushion, was listed by its owner as aesthetically faulty.<\/p>\n

I decided to turn it into a seat. The plywood top was cut into slats and attached to black webbing material I bought at the local hardware store. The cross-struts were cut down and refitted.<\/p>\n

Here’s a photo of it in use (thanks Bianca). Due to its IKEA heritage the chair can be dismantled and stored flat; a suitable allen key is attached.<\/p>\n

Another object left for repair was this Matchbox car with a faulty front axle.<\/p>\n

I fixed the front axle, jacked up the car, added fats and wheel arches to the back, painted flames down the side, and tinted the windows.<\/p>\n

The owners name “Toine” was also added to the back.<\/p>\n

Although I’m happy with how the FIX project developed, the limited number of objects received by the FIX team impacted on the projects objective to engage a diverse range of objects and modifications<\/i>. I’m considering re-running the project with a greater focus on object modification.<\/p>\n
