The B&O MP3 Mac Mod engages with the Macintosh case modding community and won The 2006 Great Mac Mod Challenge. It consists of a 1998 Apple PowerBook computer housed inside a modified Bang & Olufsen case. The unit operates as an MP3 jukebox, the original B&O control interface is re-tasked to function as track selector. Documentation of the modification process is published on-line and software developed for the unit has been released under an open source license. Through contributions to shared knowledge the project seeks to promote open source information and develop an understanding of objects as constituting a shared space that may be understood as communal and public.
