groundings is the work of collaborative art group Open Spatial Workshop (OSW). In 2005 OSW consisted of Scott Mitchell, Bianca Hester, Terri Bird, and Natasha Johns-Messenger.
This propositional work consists of three slowly revolving turntables incorporated into the Queen Victoria Gardens, Melbourne. Planted to match the existing grass environment these rotating surfaces, ranging in size from 7 to 10 meters in diameter, are designed to turn at approximately two revolutions per hour. This sculptural proposition would activate relations between the sky, ground, bodies and the surrounding urban environment, altering trajectories and constructing a spatial poetics based in movement, transition, duration and time.
