New Millennium Fountain, 2013

New Millennium Fountain was developed for ‘NEW13’ curated by Charlotte Day, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne.

Conceived as an experiment conducted with the building of ACCA, New Millennium Fountain takes sunlight and reflects it into the depths of the gallery space, here the fractured light plays upon two solar hot air balloons. The work used knowledge gathered from amateur DIY sources to construct four heliostat mirrors capable of reflecting sunlight from the roof of ACCA through a further 33 mirrors to the back galleries spaces. The accompanying catalogue for ‘NEW13’ contains an essay on Mitchell’s work by Pia Ednie-Brown.
