RepRap minimug, 2010

Developed for the ‘Inside Out’ project, exhibited at Object Gallery, Sydney. This work is a reproduction (with errors) of a ‘minimug’, an object developed by the RepRap community.

Possessing a curious mix of machine and DIY aesthetics, the objects produced by members of the RepRap community emphasise the role that cultural artefacts play in forming social traditions and shaping our visions of the future. The work RepRap minimug is a replica of the first utilitarian object produced by a RepRap printer. This small shot glass has instigated a tradition amongst the RepRap community, by which RepRap builders test and then toast the success of their new machines.
