Splinter, 2015

Splinter is an Open Spatial Workshop (OSW) project with Terri Bird and Bianca Hester. It was developed for ‘from the collection: Gertrude Regional Residencies, chapter two’ curated by Emily Cormack, commissioned by Gertrude CAS and La Trobe Regional Gallery, Victoria.

The work includes a 23 million year old, partially fossilised Kauri log that was dug up from the local Loy Yang open cut mine. This large form is shown along side selected of works from the Latrobe Gallery Collection including a lithograph by Noel Counihan and a stoneware vase by Stephen Harrison.

The Kauri log was generously loaned by Museums Victoria. More details on OSW projects can be found at osw.com.au
