the Listener, 2014


the Listener was shortlisted for the Melbourne Prize for Urban Sculpture and exhibited at Federation Square, Melbourne in 2014.

A working radio telescope and public sculpture, the work builds on amateur DIY radio projects and iconic radio telescope design to explore to the Hydrogen line as it drift scans the sky. Radio signals are recorded over 24 hours on a built-in chart recorder.

The work was supported through advice from the Radio Astronomy Section of the Astronomical Society of Victoria and RMIT radio communication experts David Welch and Dr. Thomas Baum
