When is the iSOP?

Published by at 12:09 pm under about

UPDATE: iSOP is no longer accepting iPods for repair. iPods previously left for repair may be collected from Uplands Gallery during normal gallery hours.

The iPod Social Outreach Program will operate from Saturday 14th October to Saturday 18th November, 2006 at Uplands gallery.

Uplands gallery hours are from 11.00 a.m. – 5.30 p.m., Tuesday – Saturday. iPods may be dropped off or picked up during this time.

I will be manning the iSOP desk from 2.30 – 5.30 p.m. every Thursday and Friday during the 5 week program. This is when most repairs will take place. If you would like to talk to me about your iPod, the iSOP, or the weather then come in during this time.

iSOP desk hours may change to match demand for the service. Any changes to the program will be noted here.

    Hi Scott,
I am in Wollongong and have an issue with a Gen 2 Nano, in that the adhesive on the plastic shim and the metal plate, behind the clickwheel, is not strong enough, mainly due to the fact that I mauled the plastic shim slightly in my ignorance, disassembling the unit and have an unhappy little girl, extremely attached to her music and missing the iPod badly.

Would you be able to recommend and adhesive that I can use to reassemble the clickwheel?

    Kind regards and great project,
    Roger Barnes

    Hi Roger,

sorry for the delay in responding, I’ve been travelling and out of contact.

You have probably moved on from your problem iPod, but in case you’re still having difficulties:

Apple appear to use an adhesive that stays flexible – they probably apply this as a sheet as it has a very even thickness.
I think the best bet would be to use a liquid contact adhesive (as sold in hardware shops).
Clean off any big lumps of old glue.
Fully coat both contact surfaces with a very thin layer of adhesive.
Wait the required time (as stated on the pack) and,
Press the two pieces together – make sure the pieces are lined up before they make contact, you may not get a second crack at it.

    Best of luck,
    Scott
