Who is the iSOP?

Published by at 9:53 am under about

The iPod Social Outreach Program is basically just me, Scott Mitchell, fixing iPods and installing iPodLinux out of a gallery in Melbourne. I am a post-grad student studying Industrial Design at RMIT and this project forms part of my PhD research. The iSOP also continues my sculptural (art) practice. To understand it as sculpture you have to think of the iSOP as an investigation of material (iPods) in space and time. Don’t worry, I’m not going to build a “sculpture” out of your iPods, this investigation is of a social nature. The art happens in the relationships that are generated by the project.

But the iPod Social Outreach Program doesn’t have to be me, it could be you. Everything on the iSOP site is released under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 2.5 License so you are welcome to use the resources here to set up your own non-commercial iPod Social Outreach Program. As the project develops more resources will be added including posters, consent forms, and DIY instructions. Modify these files to suit your own needs, if you want help or advice drop me a line.
