Connected to Mac

– iTunes gives warning that a corrupt iPod has been detected and suggests ‘restoring’ the iPod.
Charged nano for 1/2 hour
Restored iPod from iTunes
– iTunes reports that “The iPod “iPod” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1418)”
Used Disk Utility to partition the nano as ‘Free Space’ (see HD repair for details)
– partition failed with “Input/output error”
Used Terminal to interrogate nano
– ‘disktool’ reports nano as
***Disk Appeared (‘disk1’,Mountpoint = ”, fsType = ”, volName = ”)
– ‘pdisk’ crashes with “Floating point exception”
Opened nano
Removed screen and click-wheel assembly
Plugged main board into Mac (the nano will function without the screen or click-wheel)

Restored iPod from iTunes

Checked the pins on the flash chip for faulty connections

– ‘disktool’ reports nano as
***Disk Appeared (‘disk2’,Mountpoint = ”, fsType = ”, volName = ”)

This is a change in behaviour, not sure why (I’ve prodded this iPod with a multi-meter quite a bit while trying to trouble-shoot job number 28, maybe I reset a component or dislodged a bridged circuit?).
