iPod repair log.

This is my favourite iPod model, I love the feel of the mechanical wheel and the square edge on the front face.

Initial Condition:
no activity

Action:
Connected to Mac
– iTunes doesn’t see iPod
– Disk Utility doesn’t see iPod

The FireWire port on iPod appears to be loose and may have separated from the motherboard. This is a common problem with the 1G iPod.

Opened iPod

As suspected the FireWire port has broken away from the motherboard.

Re-soldered FireWire port to motherboard
– iPod now fully functional

Report:
Repaired broken FireWire connector.
