iPod repair log.

(windows formatted)

Initial Condition:
scratches on front and back
small dint in back
iPod inactive

Action:
Connected iPod to Mac

– iPod boots to bad folder

– and then displays “OK to disconnect”

Charged iPod for 4 hours
– iPod stuck on “OK to disconnect” until battery runs out
– buttons have no effect (cannot be reset)
– hold switch appears to be working

Opened iPod

Disconnected battery

Disconnected hard drive

Installed know working hard drive in iPod

– iPod boots to bad folder

Connected to Mac
– iPod displays “OK to disconnect”
– iPod appears on desktop
– iPod appears in iTunes

Restored iPod (with known working drive installed)
– restore process completes normally
– iPod boots to select ‘Language’ menu
– iPod operates normally

Reinstalled hard drive

– iPod boots to bad folder

Connected iPod to Mac
– no change

– iPod boots to bad folder

– and then displays “OK to disconnect”
– iPod is not seen by Mac

Connected iPod to PC

– iPod boots to bad folder

– and then displays “OK to disconnect”
– iPod is not seen by Windows

Report:
iPod hard drive appears to be damaged beyond repair.

All other iPod components are operating normally.

iPod is not functional.
