Installed known working drive
– iPod boots to
Connected to Mac
– iPod mounts on desktop
– iPod appears in iTunes with message “iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted”
‘Restored’ iPod with iTunes
– iPod boots to “do not disconnect”
– iTunes asks to name iPod
– iPod operates normally
Reinstalled original hard drive
– iPod starts up to ‘Choose a Language Menu’ and then appear to operate normally (no songs are loaded)
Connected to Mac
– iPod mounts on desktop
– iPod appears in iTunes (asks to be named “JUiCE BX” ??)
– iPod is formatted for Windows
– copied songs to iPod, appears to be fully operational
Disconnected iPod
– iPod boots to normal menu
– iPod plays and functions normally
Reassembled iPod
Reset iPod
– iPod boots to normal menu
– iPod operates normally
Report:
Disassembled iPod, installed working drive, installed original drive, and reassembled iPod.
iPod now appears to be fully functional.
Notes:
I think the iPod lost it’s link to the hard drive. There is some evidence that the iPod stores information about the boot drive in memory, perhaps connecting a working drive restored this link?
